LightTangent has released SIDPLAY65 – a native Mega-65 player for COMPUTE! Gazette Music System SID Music Files.
The COMPUTE! Sidplayer was a music system for the C64 developed by Craig Chamberlain and Harry Bratt in the ’80s. Music files could be created using an editor program on the C64 and then played using a more lightweight player which lacked editing facilities.
Many music files were created and shared online via Q-Link and Compuserve making it a highly popular format at the time. Later improvements were made to the system to add support for a second SID chip allowing for stereo (or “6-Voice”) music files, as well as a karaoke-style display of the lyrics for the music.
The disk is bundled with a lot of funky tunes from the 80’s and 90’ies played with 6 voices (2 SIDs). It supports playlists and importing music from other disks.
